Hello Everyone! Exciting day around here - first day of school at Pioneer Elementary for our daughter, Sailor! Please Note: extremely stylish backpack and line of sparkles down pants (of course) And to top it all off, such perfectly glorious September weather.  Hopefully it won't be *too* hard for the kids to stay in their seats when the sunny playground is so enticing.    All this nice weather is creating a bumper crop of tomatoes around our house this year, and a fluffy patch of basil that we finally decided to turn into one of our favorite easy meal makers......

Hello Everyone! I hope you're having a great week.  Around our house we're getting ready for both the end of Sailor's 2nd grade school year and Tony's 20th high school reunion.  Both seem to involve a substantial party... and I'm not willing to bet on which one will be the least likely to involve the cops.  Could go either way!  What we know for sure is that there will be lots of fun and good seafood.  This week we're featuring sockeye salmon, which is the star of the show in our new favorite take-to-a-party recipe ~  salmon rellenos!  Fair warning...

Hello Everyone! It is a happy day here at the fish shop - we have, in our hot little hands, *both* the first of the year fresh salad shrimp (also the 'special' this week) AND the first of the year fresh spot shrimp.  It's practically Olympia Shrimpfest!  Not only are both of these a fresh, local, wild and sustainably harvested shrimp, but they're delicious and healthy and Spot Shrimp! beautiful.  Potentially swoon-worthy.  And if you're thinking I'm a little too excited about shrimp you're probably right.  The culinary possibilities are zooming through my mind.... salads and grilling and sautéing and...

Hello Everyone! There's big news around here today!  Less than an hour ago we had our first Young's Bay Spring King Salmon come in the door, courtesy of my Dad.  The first delicious sign in the seafood world that, (drum roll please... ) Spring is coming!  There will be further "test" fishing at the mouth of the Columbia in the next few days and if all goes well we'll be looking at the first official salmon opening in the next couple of weeks.  For today, there's one fish and she's a beauty.  If you'd like a piece, raid the piggy...
